Audrey Marguerite Thompson Jenkinson Wednesday April 1st 2020

Audrey Marguerite Thompson
September 13,1932 – April 1, 2020
Audrey passed away in Pembroke on April 1, 2020 due to complications from the sudden onset of severe pancreatitis. She was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Rev. S Reid Thompson (2014). Daughter of the late Henrietta and Orley Jenkinson. She is also preceded in death by her brother Tommy and sister Shirley ( late Jerry).
Left to mourn is her loving son Kevin; embraced as a daughter-in-law Anna; her sisters Beverly ( late Dave) and Patty ( Rick) . She is also survived by her sister-in-law Carol ( late Don), many nieces and nephews, cousins and cherished friends.
Audrey is remembered by those who knew her as a kind and caring soul. Yet the cards she was given to play in her life were not always easy. Four times Audrey was asked to uproot her life and move with her family across Canada to set up new lives: from Ottawa to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; then to Kelowna, BC; then to Hamilton, Ontario and finally to Pembroke Ontario. Each time Audrey had the ability to set up a warm home for her family, and to make many close friends, friendships she kept throughout her life.
Audrey’s talents were numerous and varied. She never wanted for work and her working career was in legal and church offices. Undeterred by the fact that her husband and then, much later, her son lacked basic handyman skills she remained to the end the ‘fix-it’ person of the household. Surviving breast cancer in her 80’s she embraced technology, and she kept up friendships over the county and world though text, phone, and e-mail. That said, she was among the last to maintain the tradition of written notes, and many a person can attest to receiving a quiet encouraging note from her, just when they needed it.
Family was such an important part of Audrey’s life. In particular, her enduring connection to Beverly, Patty and Carol spanned generations amid countless family joys and sorrows. These three were never far from Audrey’s thoughts.
Throughout her life, Audrey quietly maintained and held her personal religious beliefs, and they were part of who she was.
Audrey had many friends in the Church community, and deep ties to First Presbyterian Church in Pembroke. She treasured her companions in the Ladies League.
While grateful to more than can be named, special thanks are offered to Rev. Pat Van Gelder, Nelda Scheuneman, and Roslyn Gignac for the support and friendship they gave to Audrey in her last years as she coped with her health issues. A further special thanks is offered to Rev. Annabelle Wallace, whose friendship with Audrey spanned so many years.
Thanks are also offered to Dr. Hing who cared for Audrey for many years. As well, the paramedics and medical staff of the Pembroke Regional Hospital treated Audrey with care and compassion through this most difficult of times.
Finally, to all her family and friends who knew her best: Remember Audrey with a smile and peace in your heart, for that is what she would have wanted.
In the circumstances, there will be no formal memorial service at this time. Private Interment of her ashes will take place at a later date joining those of Reid, at the Micksburg Presbyterian Cemetery. Audrey was a supporter of a diverse list of charities, and a donation in her honour to a charity of one’s choice could be considered.
