Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, and grandfather Walter (Wally) John Tainton on March 21, 2020 at age 71.
Wally was born July 3, 1948 in Thunder Bay, ON to Fred and Ellen (Anderson) Tainton. Wally completed training on September 15, 1969 in Regina, SK and became a member of the RCMP. It was while he worked near Strathmore, Alberta that he met his wife of forty-six years Mary (Thomas). Mary and Wally were married on February 23, 1974, and after a few transfers, they settled in Okotoks, Alberta where they have resided for thirty-eight years raising their family.
Wally was a much-loved father and papa. His willingness to drop everything for a visit or a play with his grandchildren will be very missed. Papa’s humour and ability to make people laugh was one of his best qualities, he taught us all not to take life too seriously and that there is always a reason to laugh, and always time for a game of cards or monopoly.
He had many passions, most of which revolved around spending time with his family. Many great memories were made on camping or fishing trips, and his love for games filled family visits with a warm and competitive spirit that will long live on. Papa was a fixture at the rinks, hardly missing a practice or a game, and his love for the game of hockey will live on through his kids and grandkids.
Wally was predeceased by his father Fredrick and mother Ellen. Wally will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Mary, his three children Carolyn (Pat), Bryce (Emma), and Debbie (Gayle); his grandchildren, Dalton, Daniel, David, Ava, Ben, Brandon, Alexis, Parker, and Lochlan; and his Uncle Edward.
The family would like to thank Dr. Lohmann, her team, and all the nurses and staff of Unit 66 at South Health Campus for their care and compassion shown to Wally during this difficult time.
A celebration of life will be planned in the future and details will be made available at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (www.cpff.ca) in lieu of flowers.
