Laura Fung-Shiu Shum Ng
Passed away in peace at home on January 31, 2020 to be reunited with her lifelong partner of 60 years Dr. Edward Hon Wai Ng, (2018).
Predeceased by her father, Chock Kum Shum and mother, Woon Jun Tam Shum of Hong Kong.
Mother of Dr. Albert Ng, Dr. Rose Ann Ng, and Edward Man Wai Ng LLB of Vancouver.
Grandmother of Patrick Ng, Andrew Ng and Christopher Ng-Fletcher.
Sister to: Yuk Ying Shum (deceased), Dina Shum Yip (deceased), Dr. Yuk Kai Shum (deceased), Fung King Shum (deceased), Yuk Nam Shum (Scotland), Simon Shum (deceased), Resela Shum Wong-Sing (Vancouver), and Agnes Shum Yeung (Toronto). Survived by many nieces and nephews in Toronto, Vancouver, Scotland and Hong Kong.
She leaves this world comforted with the love and care from her children, grandchildren and many friends.
Many thanks to the doctors and care providers, especially Dr. Gary Ing and Dr. Ben Musa, Hospice Windsor, Windsor Regional Cancer Centre, VON and Bayshore for their commitment to her care and comfort.
She came to Canada to be reunited with her high school sweetheart Edward in 1954. She received tremendous support from many in a new country and special thanks to the Missionary Sisters of Immaculate Conception of Ottawa for their caring and generosity when she first came to Canada in 1954 till 1958.
She worked as registered nurse at Grace Salvation Army Hospital and Hotel Dieu Hospital in Windsor for many years. She also volunteered with many organizations in the Windsor community but especially devoted to the International Youth Symphony and the Windsor Symphony Orchestra in various capacities including many years of fundraising. She was passionate with her volunteer work with the Es County Chinese Canadian Association with fundraising and organizing, especially the Chinese Cabaret with the Windsor Symphony in 1980.
She expressed thanks to so many friends whom she had come to know over the decades for their kindness to her and for their enduring friendship. She was the kind of person who in her last moments was truly thankful for the life that she has been given. She also wanted to express that she was so very grateful to be a Canadian.

Visiting on Friday, February 7, 2020 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Families First 3260 Dougall Ave. South Windsor, 519-969-5841. On Saturday, February 8, 2020 family and friends are invited to gather directly at Corpus Christi Church, 1400 Cabana Rd. W., for visitation after 10:00 a.m. until a Mass in Celebration of Laura’s Life begins at 11:00 a.m. Cremation to follow.
Laura wanted to convey this message personally:
“I am so grateful to my family and many friends for their continual prayers and care over the last months.”
