June 7, 1930 – January 19, 2020
Alice Margaret McKinney, age 89 years old passed away peacefully January 19, 2020, after a short illness. She was born in Coleraine, Northern Ireland to Robert and Margaret Hayes. Alice met Joseph (Joe) McKinney in Northern Ireland, and after their courtship they decided to make their home in Canada where Joe’s sisters had moved to. Joe came first and Alice followed in 1954. They emigrated to the Lower Mainland and eventually settled in North Burnaby. Joe predeceased Alice in September 1992.
Alice was quiet, almost shy until you got to know her. She always opened her door to friends, neighbors and the endless stream of neighborhood children. She could be the life of the party and loved to laugh. After raising her children, Alice returned to work in the baking industry until her retirement in 1992. Sadly, during the last 5 years of her life, dementia took hold of this bright cheery person. She moved to Kiwanis Care Centre in New Westminster in September 2016.
Alice is survived by her children, John (Sylvia) and Deborah.
