John David Wry
1943-2020
John David Wry passed away at
The Moncton Hospital in the early hours of Tuesday, January 28, 2020,
after complications following a lengthy struggle with multiple
sclerosis. It wasn’t a fair fight with MS, or he would have
beaten it for sure.
David was the son of the late
Gerald and Verna (Patterson) Wry. He is survived by his wife of 42
years, Martha (Payne); his two sons, Ronald (Debbie) and Gerald (Lisa)
and their mother, the former Marion Folkins. Missing him too are his
precious grandchildren, Veronica and John. Fondest memories come from
his sisters, Verna Mitton (Leaman) and Wendy Lund (Andrew) and his
brothers, Fred (Michelle) and Tom (Kathy), plus numerous nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Born in Sackville, NB, David
was passionate about anything to do with woodworking and he enjoyed
being a carpenter more than anything. During his 32 years at the
Community College, he taught carpentry, was Head of the Civil
Technology Department, and wrote curriculum for the block release
program. He served on the Canadian Housing Design Council and also the
National Research Council of Canada, and was a member of HUDAC. He was
a long-time member of Kinsmen and was a commissioned officer with the
8th Hussars. He operated DACO Construction for some 50 years, building
countless residential and light industrial structures. And mostly, the
Conservative party has lost a dedicated
supporter.
David was a mentor to many,
especially his carpentry students. He was strong and positive,
generous with his time and knowledge, and gentle and kind with dogs,
children and women, especially dogs. He excelled at Scrabble and was
sly when playing 45s, especially if George Jones was singing in the
background.
Thanks to the Paramedics for
their numerous trips with David. Heartful thanks to Extra Mural
(Driscoll Unit) for always being there when David needed them. And
thanks to the doctors and nurses for their care and compassion.
Special thanks to all of his friends for their many visits both at
home and while in hospital.
Arrangements are under the
care of Fergusons Funeral Home. There will be a gathering of family
and friends at Fergusons Funeral Home Reception Centre, 1657 Mountain
Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Saturday, February 1, 2020 from 11:00 am
to 1:00 pm.
If you are so inclined, and
especially in memory of David, donations to the Multiple Sclerosis
Society or the Moncton SPCA would please him. Online condolences can

David’s garage door is now
