Obituary
Anne Vira Anthony, lovingly known as Nana to her grandchildren and others, passed away peacefully at the age of 98. She will be missed terribly by son Evan (Sandra) and daughter Doreen Rivers (Don) as well as her three grandchildren: Ted Rivers (Shannon), Peter Rivers and Michelle Rivers and her great grandchildren, Brodie and Bowen.
Nana had a long, happy life. Born in Norman’s Cove Nfld. in 1922 and growing up in Corner Brook where she had a happy childhood with her parents, brother and sister. She chose to move to Toronto as a young woman, met Pendry, her husband, where they settled and raised their two children. Life revolved around her family, church, work and later volunteering. Throughout that time she met many friends who became like family. She was kind, funny, loving, energetic, generous – if we were all like Nana, the world would be a much better place.
Big thanks to the Apostle’s Church and later the Church of the Incarnation who provided Nana with a wonderful social circle of kind, generous souls like herself. She loved to bake treats to bring for coffee time after the service. She was known as « Anne the baker » who was appreciated by all.
Thanks too to North York Seniors who provided her with a safe place to visit. She always enjoyed the interaction with others and the staff were true angels.
Her final year was spent at Cummer Lodge – not a great year during Covid and we saw her decline quickly. The staff were wonderful though – very kind, helpful and did a great job keeping her and the other residents safe. No Covid to speak of there. That was such a relief for our family.
We hope she has travelled to a better place and will be reunited with Pendry as well as her brother and sister. She was so loved.
