Rita Marie Gerwing
February 3, 1935 – Lac La Biche, Alberta
December 19, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sadness and acceptance that we announce the passing of Rita Marie Gerwing (nee Peltier) on December 19, 2020 at the age of 85 years, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. We are devastated by our loss. You have always been, and will forever be, our rock. We are comforted knowing that you are now with Jesus in Heaven and are reunited with Chuck, the love of your life and husband of almost 50 years.
The youngest of seven children, Rita approached everything she did with her whole heart and soul, deep love and much laughter. Her life was lived for faith, family and service. She was a well-loved and respected elementary school teacher, finishing her career in French Immersion. Rita was always very active in the Church in many capacities, including: member of the CWL – 60 years; Sponsor – RCIA and; Pastoral Care Coordinator at St. Patrick’s church – 4 years, retiring at the age of 84.
She leaves behind her children Miriam (Stuart), Carolyn, Anita and Steven; grandchildren Kelsey, Leah (Jacob), Jessica (Sean), Kristopher, Kaelan, Tiana and Cassidy; great-grandchildren Rikki (Chad), Sabryna and Jackson; and great-great-grandson Vincent. Rita also leaves behind her sisters-in-law Eileen, Laura, Hedy, Julie, and Pauline (Maurice); many nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends. She was predeceased by her parents Louis and Rose Anna Peltier, brothers Edmond, Paul, Laurent, and sister Therese.
A private Funeral Mass will be held at St. Albert The Great Catholic Church on Tuesday, ,December 29, 2020 at 11:00am. Live stream of the mass will be available.
