Carmelita Marie MacFarlane
1947-2020
With her loving family by her side,
Carmie passed away peacefully at home leaving memories
and stories the grandchildren will cherish forever. She was a
pillar of courage and strength not only to her family but to anyone
who knew her. Carmie battled cancer for 26 years and forever remained
positive.
Born in Halifax, Carmie grew up in
Fairview, the daughter of the late William and
Ethel (Cleary) Murphy. Carmie
graduated from Mount Saint Vincent Academy and worked as a legal
secretary. After marrying her husband Doug, they were blessed with two
beautiful children Troy and JoLynn before being transferred
to Riverview ,NB in 1979 with VIA Rail where Doug was employed. Carmie
took time off to raise her children and was so happy when her
grandchildren came along. She was the best nanny you could ask for,
always baking them their favourite cookies or cakes and surprising
them with little gifts whenever she went on a trip. Carmie and Doug
cherished their visits both to the farm in Williams Point, Antigonish
where there were always large family gatherings as well as
trips to Halifax to be with her family. Her many nieces and
nephews meant the world to her.Without a doubt, there were very few
crafts that Carmie had not mastered. She kept busy
trying anything new that came along or that she thought
someone might like. Whether it was a quilt, dish cloths,
aprons or even Christmas decorations, she was happiest when she was
giving them to someone special.
As the children got older, Carmie went
back to work at several financial institutions and
so enjoyed being out and meeting
people.
The pride and joy of Carmie’s
life was her grandchildren and there was never a day that she
didn’t have a story to tell you about how proud she was of
each of them. Her happiest moments were when they could all be
together and we are so grateful they were all with her the past couple
of weeks.
Besides her parents, Carmie was
predeceased by her husband Doug (2013). She will always be
remembered and have a place in the hearts of her children Troy(Shara
MacPherson) Williams Point and JoLynn(Mike Mullen) Riverview. Nanny
will be forever missed by her six grandchildren Jamie, Taylor, Isaac
and Emily Mullen as well as Edyn and Meghan MacFarlane. Carmie also
leaves her sisters Anita (Joe MacFarlane) of Riverview, Susan (late
Brian Gough) of Halifax and brothers Bill (Marlene Stevenson) and Doug
(Gail Tomblin) of Halifax. She also leaves behind her in-laws
Lillian(late Mike) Power,Mary Lou MacFarlane,
Kenny(Bernadette)MacFarlane, Donnie (Brenda) MacFarlane all of
Williams Point, Carol(Raymond) DeCoste of Pomquet and Dorothy (late
Lenny)Benoit of New Glasgow.
Being a devoted Catholic, there will be
a mass of Christian burial on Wednesday, December
30th at 11am at Immaculate Heart of Mary
Church, Riverview.
