Obituary of Joy Marlene Johnson
The family of Joy Marlene Johnson, aged 62 of Rhodes Corner, is saddened to announce her passing on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia.
Joy is survived by her two sons, Geoff and Ryan Burgoyne, and their father, Rick Burgoyne, her sisters, Kathy Watt (Murray) of Fredericton, and Lynn Whalen (Bill) of Moncton. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their children. She was predeceased by her father and mother Donald and Patricia Johnson.
Joy was always a spark of energy. At a very young age, she was known for her amazing ability to belt out a song and bring down the house in performances with an all-girls band known as the Kalypso Kids.
She left Fredericton to attend St. Mary’s University in Halifax, where she graduated with honors in the Bachelors of Commerce program. She had a very successful career in the insurance industry for many years. She retired from her professional career to be at home with her most proud accomplishment, her two boys.
Joy loved her farm in Rhodes Corner, and her boys grew up knowing the love and companionship of cats, dogs, birds; all strays were welcome! Of course, her other pride and joy was her horse, Bailey. The family was always grateful for the support she received from Rick and the boys in keeping the farm going and in great shape.
Due to COVID-19 constrictions, there will be a memorial service for immediate family only, with Reverend Paul Thompson officiating. Interment will be held at the Lower Hainesville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations made to your local SPCA or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements are under the direction of C.F.
