Obituary for
Joan Elizabeth Garrett (Perrin)
Garrett, Joan Elizabeth
Peacefully, at the New Orchard Lodge Long-term Care Home in Ottawa, Joan Elizabeth Garrett passed away on October 20, 2020, in her 95th year.
Joan was born in 1926 in Toronto to Mabel and Gordon Perrin, and married Charles Jackson (Jack) Garrett in 1946.
Joan and Jack operated a successful automotive service business in Stouffville, Ontario, until 1962 when Jack accepted a teaching position with the Ottawa Board of Education. Joan joined the staff at the Elmvale Public Library as assistant to the head librarian where she led the childrens’ Storybook Reading Program.
An avid naturalist, Joan continued to enjoy the great outdoors, summering at her cottage at White Lake and wintering in Englewood, Florida, after Jack’s passing in 1984.
Joan will be sadly missed by her children, Deborah Brooks of Simcoe, Ontario, Elizabeth O’Brien of Montreal, Quebec, and Donald Garrett of Stittsville, Ontario. She is also survived by six grand-children, four great-grand-children, two great-great grand-children and brother Paul of Sault Ste. Marie. She was predeceased by her parents and brothers Ken and Bruce.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the New Orchard Lodge for their kind and caring support of Joan in her final years.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
