William Bill Cherrie 2020

Bill died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.
Bill’s legacy is his large family. He was predeceased by his amazing wife Anita Marra, who died 11 years ago. He will be sorely missed by his 6 children Anne, Bill, Anita, Cathy, Pat, and Paul and their spouses. Bill has 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He leaves behind his only sister, Maureen Mullaney and will be missed by his companion, Mary Lou Buckridan.
Bill was born and raised in Windsor, attended Assumption College before serving with the Fleet Air Arms (English Division) during WWII. Bill returned to study at Western University where he met his wife Anita. They were married for 62 years. They had a large brood of kids, 5 under the age of 10, which kept them both hopping. He was an outstanding father. Bill had a successful career in insurance and was able to work hard, take care of his family and still find some time for his golf passion. He was the longest standing member at Es Golf Club for 62 years and enjoyed every round. His last hole-in-one there was at the tender age of 88. Bill also enjoyed his bridge games, kept active on his computer, lived independently, and drove his car until a few months ago. Bill was a true gentleman. No one ever heard a mean word from him. He was a great listener and the best guy around to keep your confidences. Bill loved his music, especially the Big Band era and Sinatra. He was a marvellous dancer. His friends admired his sense of humour and easy-going nature. Bill was very committed to his faith and actively involved with his Church. It gave him much solace towards the end. Bill had an amazing 95 years and was blessed with loving family and friends throughout his life. We should all be so lucky. He was our hero and one heck of a role model.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bill’s name at the Hospice of Windsor.
