CAMPBELL, RONALD

RONALD CHARLES CAMPBELL
1924-2020
On August 9, we lost a cherished husband and father. Dad fought to live life on his terms. His determination and strength shone brightly and we are proud and honoured to have been able to share his life.
Dad was born in Humboldt, SK and was the eldest of four children. He spent early years playing hockey and baseball. At age 15, dad lost his father and left his childhood behind to step into a new familial role. As times were tough, Dad quit high school after grade 11 to join the Royal Canadian Navy to support his country and his family.
After WWII, Dad came home to finish high school and earn entrance to the University of Toronto, School of Optometry. He returned to Saskatoon to practice and later received his Doctorate from UCLA.
Dad and Mom met when young and were reacquainted in Saskatoon, then married in 1953. In 1959, they relocated to Melfort where they raised their family and enjoyed company of good friends. They enjoyed their retirement in Kelowna, BC for many years before relocating to Lethbridge, AB to be closer to family.
Dad loved to share his zest for life with his daughters, whether it was sports, games, berry picking or variety of his single malt scotches. He was a golfer, curler, downhill skier, fisherman and hunter into his 80s. He loved spending time at the cabin he built on Whelan Bay at Whiteswan Lakes in SK.
He volunteered many hours to Kinsmen/K40 Clubs, Melfort Regional Park/Golf Course, U of S Senate, Saskatoon Fish and Game League, Hunter Safety Course and numerous other organizations.
He was so proud of his Scottish heritage, history, ballads and pipes.
Dad was dedicated to taking care of his family throughout this life. He was a man who would set a goal and achieve it.
Ron is survived by his wife Dorothy (Stroeder) and daughters Camille Bieber (Brian), Carla Campbell, Shelly Campbell (Mark Antonini). Grandchildren Brett Bieber (Tanya) and Lachlan Barry. Great grandchildren, Bennett, Ayden, Ashtyn Bieber. Sister Isobel Allan.
As per Ron’s request, there will be no service.
