Kathleen Elizabeth Lougheed Hubbard Saturday July 18th 2020

Kathleen Elizabeth Lougheed (Nee Hubbard) December 26, 1933 – July 17, 2020
Our beloved Kathy passed away at Red Deer Hospital the evening of July 17. Kathy was born in Edmonton and grew up in the Westmount area with her parents, Violet and Sydney Hubbard, and younger sister, Joan. Kathy loved children and began her career as a teacher with a 1 year teaching certificate after finishing at Westglenn Highschool. Her first teaching job took her to Canyon Creek near Lesser Slave Lake and then to Seba Beach School. She then returned to University of Alberta to complete her second year in the Education program. Determined to finish the courses needed for her degree, Kathy continued taking teaching jobs while studying and also completed several summer school sessions. She convocated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Education degree.
One of Kathleen’s teaching jobs took her to Eastview School in Red Deer where she met the love of her life, Bert Lougheed. They were married in 1958 and enjoyed 62 wonderful years together. Kathy loved reading and shared that love with many; she had a passion for teaching children and adults to read. She worked as a volunteer, teaching literacy to new Canadians.
Kathy was blessed with 3 lovely daughters: Kathleen, and twins Patty and Trudy. She passed on her artistic talents and her love of choral music to all three girls.
A love of animals meant Kathy had many different pets during her life. She loved dogs, particularly Kerry Blue Terriers. She trained 4 different Kerry Blues and also enjoyed the companionship of a Miniature Schnauzer and Yorkshire Terriers.
Kathy had a kind heart, a warm smile and a gift for making friends wherever she went.
Kathy loved being outdoors and enjoyed many camping trips with her family. She loved travelling to Hawaii with friends and family. One of her favourite places in the world was Seba Beach. Family gatherings each summer at the Seba cottage, Erin Villa, was a tradition she held dear. Potlucks, boating, games, laughter, music and canoeing down the creek were all part of the fun. Kathy was at the centre of it all.
Kathy was a beautiful person. She will always be remembered fondly and the memories she created will be cherished. Kathy is with God now and at peace.
