Obituary of Cornelius Sawatsky
Cornelius Sawatsky, late of Regina, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2020 at the age of 94 years. He was born in Dunelm, SK on May 26, 1926 and the youngest surviving member of a family of 11 siblings. He was predeceased by his wife of Eunice in February 6, 2020.
Cornelius grew up and received his education in Swift Current. He was employed by Cooper’s Coop, Gallant Motors, and eventually apprenticed as an Auto-body mechanic for Standard Motors where he worked for over 25 years.
He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener. Cornelius also enjoyed camping in his custom made van and he and Eunice spent many hours camping in western Canada and the northern USA. He retired in 1980 and he and Eunice moved to BC, where they lived until failing health brought them back to Saskatchewan in 2002 to be closer to Murray and his family in Regina. They enjoyed playing cards and attending their grandchildren’s activities. Needing full-time care for Eunice, they moved to Victoria Park several years ago where they lived their last years.
Cornelius is survived by his older daughter Sandra Maitland (Ralph) of Calgary; son Murray Sawatsky (Karen) of Regina; and younger daughter Barbara of Calgary; grandchildren, MacKenzie Buist, Jeffrey (Linsdey) Sawatsky, Elizabeth (Abbas) Hemzeh, Phillip Maitland, and Raeane (Justin) Mihalicz; great-grandchildren, Mila and Noah Hemzeh, and Hunter and Paxtyn Mihalicz.
The family will be holding a private interment at St. Paul’s Columbarium. Flowers gratefully declined. Those wishing to make a donation can do so to a charity of choice or the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK S4P 2R3.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Cornelius
