Elwood Anton Tracy
1939-2020
Elwood A. Tracy of Nackawic, NB passed away on July 12, 2020 at the
Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Elwood was born on November 23, 1939 at
Fredericton Junction, NB, son of the late John and Elsa (Jensen)
Tracy.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth (Woodley) Tracy; his
three sons, Tony (Suzanne MacNeil), Halifax, NS, Edward (Rebecca
Litt), Brooklyn, NY, and Christopher (Jennifer Jensen-Tracy), Paris,
ON; two grandchildren, Emily Johnson-Tracy and Thelonious Tracy; a
sister, Yetta Tracy (Gary Farrah), Fredericton, NB; a brother-in-law,
Carl Woodley (Carol), PEI; and several nieces, nephews, and
cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister-in-law,
Jean Hoyt (late Harold).
Elwood grew up as a “farm boy” in Fredericton Junction
before beginning a career as a telegraph operator and station agent
for CP Rail in several communities. He was proud of his more than
three decades of employment service at St. Anne Nackawic Pulp and
Paper Mill, from which he retired as Purchasing and Transportation
Manager in 1999.
He was dedicated to volunteerism and charitable work for decades,
including many years of involvement in the Nackawic Lion’s Club
(for which he served in many capacities, including President) as well
as much time spent as a soup kitchen volunteer and volunteer driver
for minor hockey. Elwood was very involved within the Anglican Parish
of Prince William, serving as both a devoted parishioner and as church
warden.
The hobbies he embraced throughout his life, including cribbage
tournaments, fly-fishing, and the rare hunting trip, all had one thing
in common: an opportunity for quiet conversation and for relationships
to flourish with friends and neighbours.
Elwood was known for his wry sense of humour, and was selflessly
devoted to his family, always brimming with love and pride for his
wife Elizabeth, his three sons, their partners and children. He was a
doting and loving PaPa to his two grandchildren, Tony’s daughter
Emily and Christopher’s son Thelonious, of whom he was so very
proud and loved tremendously. He also took great pleasure and pride
from watching the many children within his neighbourhood community in
Nackawic grow up over the decades.
Due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, there will be no visitation or
funeral service at this time. A celebration of Elwood’s life
will be planned for a future date, and interment will take place at a
later date at Gladstone Cemetery, Fredericton Junction, NB.
For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Elwood, the family
has suggested the Kidney Foundation, Greener Village Community Food
Bank or Fredericton Community Kitchen Inc.
Arrangements by Flewelling Funeral Home, Nackawic, NB.
