Harold’s Obituary
Miller, Harold Ross – Amherst. It is with great sadness that the family of Harold Ross Miller announces his passing on Friday May 8th, 2020 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst, at the age of 82. Harold was surrounded by his wife Diane and their three boys, as close as the COVID-19 reality would allow. Harold was born in Westville on June 17, 1937. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Diane (Ells); his sons, Mark (Shauna), Fredericton, Mike (Jay), Amherst; Stephen (Tonya), Amherst; grandchildren, Jenna, Matthew, Madden, and Elliot; sister, Kay McKenzie, Bedford; and many nephews and nieces. Harold was predeceased by his parents, James and Gertrude (Westville); brothers, John (Halifax), Jim (St. Catharines) and Butch « Bill » (Stratford); sister, Dorothy (Westville). Harold started his career with the Bank of Nova Scotia and spent most of his working years as an Insurance Adjuster with Marsh Adjustment Bureau until his retirement in 2005. Harold was one of the most kind and generous people anyone could ever meet. Folks will remember Harold for many reasons: a hockey Dad who was always there for his boys and so many other kids; a renowned square dancer and caller (when square dancing was popular); the favourite uncle (pretty sure this is true); community service (Springhill Rotary Club) and, most recently, as a board member with the Amherst Police Commission and on the recent committee for the Junior A Fred Page Cup. When Harold retired, he decided to learn to play the guitar and pair it with his gift and love of singing. He took his special talent on the road to entertain at many nursing homes and community events. He also wrote and recorded several songs which the family will treasure forever. Most of all Harold/Dad/Grampie will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle who always put his family first. He adored his four grandchildren and was always there to support and encourage them. He would always bring a smile with his music and his famous “Grampie’s Sundaes”. Per Harold’s request, once these unprecedented times return to a new normal, there will be a gathering of family and friends with lots of music and stories to celebrate his life. The family would like to acknowledge the exceptional care that he received from his doctors, especially Dr. Sherriff at the QEII Halifax, and the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre medical team. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre to help them help other families in similar situations.
