Luke’s Obituary
HATTIE, Luke Edward – age 25, Halifax, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at the QEII Health Sciences Centre (Infirmary Site), Halifax. Born November 21, 1994 in Yarmouth, he was a son to Alan and Kimberley “Kim” (Gaudet) Hattie, Yarmouth. After graduating from Yarmouth Memorial High, Luke obtained his Bachelor of Science degree (Major in Biochemistry) from Memorial University in St. John’s, Newfoundland, after which he went on to graduate with his Masters degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Dalhousie University, where he had currently been working doing research. Luke enjoyed mentoring other young people in the lab and was a wonderful role model for his peers. He had, just days ago, accepted a position as a Bioanalytical Scientist with BioVectra Inc. Luke loved nature and all that it had to offer, including hiking and camping. He also loved animals, especially his fish and his rabbits. Luke loved his family, his fiancee and had a great love of life. He grabbed every opportunity with both hands, saw the best in everyone, lifted others and was a true helper. Luke was an amazingly brilliant young man who impacted many with his kind, caring, thoughtful way. Aside from his parents, Alan and Kim, Luke leaves behind his fiancée and best friend, Bailey McNutt, as well as a brother, Daniel Hattie, Yarmouth; sisters, Nancy (Derek) Lakusta, Tusket and Karen Pierce (Martin), Aylesford, as well as nieces and nephews, Dustin, Madison, Liam and Claire and his maternal grandparents, Sharon and William Muise, Yarmouth. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Edward and Rosa Hattie. A private interment will take place at the Tusket Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Luke Hattie Memorial bursary fund which is currently being set up to award a Yarmouth high school student with academic excellence in Science.
