Elizabeth “Ann” Culligan (Connolly)
Passed peacefully on Friday April 24th 2020, in her 86th year, at Northwood Manor, following a long illness. Born February 10th 1935, in Glacé Bay, N.S to the late Anne (MacIssac) and Joseph Connolly.
Loving mother of Joel (Natalie),Red Deer, Christopher (Allison),Winnipeg,and Colin, Ottawa.
Grandmother to Kaitlin, Liam, Aidan, Ben and Sam. Sister to Eileen Gillis (Sydney), Louise Whitehead(Portland Me) Barbara Matheson (Ottawa) and Fr. Owen Connolly (Halifax).
Aunt Ann will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews, especially Linda Sullivan (Connolly),Pamela McIssac (Connolly) and Doug Matheson who were of immense comfort and assistance to Ann in her later years.
Ann will also be greatly missed by her childhood and lifelong friend Joan MacLean.
Predeceased by brothers, John, Dennis, Patrick and sister, Kathleen “Kaye” Connolly, brothers-in-law, Murray Matheson, Paddy Gillis, Larry Whitehead and sisters-in-law Bette Connolly (Curtis) Leah Connolly (Rayworth) and Mary Connolly (Gallant)
Ann was also predeceased by Joseph Culligan father of her children and spouse of 25 years.
Following her education at Riverview High School in Sydney River in 1953 Ann embarked on a long career with the Royal Bank Of Canada in Sydney and Halifax. She also spent a year working in Washington D.C. in 1962. Later in life, after raising her family, she had a second career with the Nova Scotia Department of Government Services retiring in 2000. Ann, was also a long time parishioner of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Dartmouth.
Ann loved the company of family and friends, revelling in the success of others and sharing their challenges. Most cherished was the attention and love given and received from her beloved grandchildren even from afar.
Cremation has taken place and a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at a future date, determined by public health guidelines.
Ann’s family extend a heartfelt and warm thank you to the fifth floor staff at Northwood Centre, Northwood Home Care and the Victorian Order of Nurses.
As expressions of sympathy, donations made to Northwood Foundation or the Canadian Lung Association would be appreciated by the family.
