Earl Leroy Baxter (P02 Ret’d)
December 08, 1942 – April 24, 2020
– age 77 of Halifax, passed away peacefully on April 24th, 2020 at the Halifax Infirmary Hospital. Born in Windsor Nova Scotia, December 8th 1942, Earl was the son of the late Clarence and Geraldine Baxter (Cochrane). Earl joined the Royal Canadian Navy in November 1963 as a “Naval Storesman” and proudly served for 25 years on many HMCS Ships (East and West Coast) and land bases across Canada. He retired in 1987 and then decided to continue working in the Logistic Field for Public Service for an additional 28 years, therefore serving 53 years with the Federal Government.
On August 28th 1965, Earl married his lovely bride Judith (Byers) and they’ve enjoyed over 54 wonderful years together. Earl and Judy were very involved with the Legion where they met many wonderful people during their dart playing days. Earl was also an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. He was also known to love his Country and Western music as well as his fiddle music, especially the music his father Clarence “Caddy” would play on his fiddle at many kitchen parties. He was a loyal Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays fan and he and Judy watched many seasons over the years.
Earl is predeceased by his parents Clarence Baxter and Geraldine Baxter (Cochrane), brother Clarence and sisters Sharon (Burgess) and Myra (Sanford). Earl is survived by his wife Judy (Byers), son Kevin (Kim) of Halifax, daughter Janice (Paul) of Aylmer, Ontario and son Scott (Lorrie) of Halifax. Earl will also be missed by his grandchildren; Natalie, Gregory, Craig, Travis, Michael, Jennifer and his great grandchildren; Cole, Paisley and Weston, all will miss their “Papa” very, very much.
Earl is survived by his siblings Audrey (Crowell), Leonard, Fred, Garnet and Michael.
A cremation will take place, but due to the current restrictions of gatherings, a service for Celebration of Life and Interment will take place at a later date. Donations in Earl’s memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a Charity of your choice.
