Pelletier, Richard Joseph
– Age 88 years passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December
3, 2019 at his home in Waycobah First
Nations.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Margaret
(Gould); son, Richard (Maria); daughters, Michelle (Rodney) and Terri
(John); sister, Jeannette and brother, Milton (Juliette). He
is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Danika, Brooke, Max and
Oliver and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Richard was a devoted father, husband, grandfather, and friend to
everyone. He was predeceased by his parents, Oscar and
Amanda Pelletier and his sisters, Laurette Dumond and Jacqueline
Anderson.
Richard was born July 8, 1931, in Fort Kent, Maine on the
family farm, « Michigan Settlement ». He
served in the US Air Force before returning to Maine to attain his
teaching degree. Richard’s career in education
spanned several decades. He taught math and science for
several years before moving on to the position of Vice Principal, then
Principal of Fort Kent Community High School for his final three years
before retirement from the school system in 1988. He wasn’t
ready for full retirement yet and then spent some time working as
Director of the Boys and Girls Club of America Group Home in Eagle
Lake. In 1994, Richard retired for good and moved to Nova Scotia with
his « Margie » to enjoy his retirement in
earnest. Richard and Margie enjoyed retirement life and
spent many days and evenings riding their boat and enjoying time
together at their home on the Bras D’or Lakes. He
also enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, spending time with his family, and
watching CNN.
Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. on Monday, December 9, from
Blessed Kateri Parish Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Waycobah
with Father Conrad Edwards officiating. A memorial service will also
be held in Fort Kent, Maine, in the spring of 2020. In lieu
of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Red
Cross.
