Mary Ann Harris (Lewey)
1948-2019
It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of
Mary Ann Harris (Lewey) on December 28, 2019 at the Dr. Everett
Chalmers Hospital. Born on September 10, 1948, she was the daughter of
the late Leo Lewey and Gertrude Nash.
Mary was very proud of her Maliseet heritage and language and
was a member of the St. Mary’s First Nation Band. She loved
attending powwows, watching the dancers and drummers, and speaking the
Maliseet language. She was a member of the St. Anthony’s
Roman Catholic Church. She held various jobs throughout her life,
being a hardworking woman. When not at work or attending events, she
could be found in the Bingo Hall, sitting in her « Seat of the
Year ». Mary’s pride and joy was her daughter,
Stephanie. Her world revolved around her daughter and her life was
made the fuller because of her.
Mary will be missed terribly by her daughter, Stephanie
Harris. She also had a son Stephen. She is survived by her brother
Leonard; she had several nieces and nephews, special nephew Lenny Jr;
and nieces Marg and Bernadette; her friend and care giver
Suzanne as well as many other friends and family, especially her
friends from the First Nation Community.
In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her
sisters Evelyn and Glenna.
A special thank you to Dr. Cameron and all the nurses and
staff of the DECH 3SW, all the staff at the Wik-Cihpolakon Senior Care
Home for their compassion and care they provided her and to her
neighbours, the Carty family, for all their help, kindness and
compassion while minding the house (and Mindsy).
There will be a visitation at McAdam’s Funeral Home
on Thursday, January 2nd, 2020, from 2-4 and
7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held at the J.A. McAdam Memorial
Chapel on Friday, January 3rd, 2020 at 11:00
am, with Fr. Monte Peters presiding. In lieu of flowers, donation to a
charity of the donor’s choosing would be
appreciated.
