Peacefully at Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Saturday, November 30, 2019, Isabel Harper of Chesterville, age 94.
She was the loving wife of the late Wendell Harper for 69 years. Born on September 10, 1925 in Rothes, Scotland, at 19 Isabel met her future husband, Wendell, who was stationed with the RCAF near her village. They married in 1944, and two years later, she and her baby son were aboard the Queen Mary bound for Canada.
Living at first in Dunbar, then in Chesterville, Isabel was always ready to socialise. She enjoyed cottage life, house parties, playing cards, travelling, bingo, meeting her folk from Scotland, doing puzzles, and (in later years) sitting at her kitchen table visiting with her plentiful friends and watching the world go by.
She is survived by her son Richard (Shirley) of Bath, Ontario; her grandson Ryan (Elaine), and her grandchildren Finn, Shea, and Cara of Hong Kong. She was predeceased by her son James (1970) and husband Wendell (2013).
A graveside funeral service will be held at Maple Ridge Cemetery, Chesterville, on Tuesday, December 3rd at 1 p.m. A celebration of Isabel’s life will be held on Sunday December 22nd from 1-4pm at the Royal Canadian Legion in Chesterville.
