George Asbridge
1925-2019
The family of George Asbridge are
deeply saddened to announce his passing last week, in his own home, at
the age of 94. Born in Cumberland County, England on May 12th 1925, he
is the son of the late John and Amy (Jackson)
Asbridge.
He is survived by his
son Jon (Annick) Blizzard of Fredericton, his sisters Evelyn Isbill of
Midland, and Betty Ewing of Bedford, NS, his long time friend and
mother of his son, Debra Blizzard, and many nieces and
nephews.
Besides his parents,
George is predeceased by sisters Poppy Asbridge, Katherine Gregg,
Mildred Totton and Edna Seguin; brothers William and John
Asbridge.
At the age of 6, George
made his way to Canada with his family in search of farm land. He was
an integral part of the Midland community. George was an entrepreneur
– he valued hard work and never hesitated to lend a helping hand.
George deeply valued the relationship with his son and was an
exemplary father. The last ten years of his life were spent spoiling a
kitten he found in his garage. He named it Tinkerbell before finding
out it was a male cat.
George was very much the
strong and silent type in his later years and never one to talk about
his accomplishments. The family would love to hear any stories of
George.
George loved hanging out
with his friends and « going out with the boys » – Doug
Chappel, Larry Snyder and the late Lloyd Armstrong. He also deeply
appreciated their partners Lorraine Chappel and Mary Naves’
friendship and support. He loved playing with their dogs – they
brought him so much joy.
George’s
kindness knew no boundaries. If you were one of his people, he would
never let you do without. He will be dearly missed by those who knew
him.
The family would like to
thank the many people in Sus area who were so good to him. While
running errands with his son, the hairdressers at Mike’s
Barber Shop, the staff at JJ’s Diner, and the bankers at the
Bank of Nova Scotia all brightened up George’s day with
their heart-warming kindness.
Arrangements have been
entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute
Centre, (839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton, where visitation will take
place on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, from 1:00 – 3:00 pm.
Interment will follow the visitation in the Midland Cemetery. A small
gathering will be happening at George’s house following the
burial.
Donations in memory of George may be made to CARMA, the SPCA
or to a memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
