Donald George Rafuse
Rafuse, Donald George – 79 of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully at QEII Halifax Infirmary Hospital on November 26, 2019 with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Charmaine (Hilchie) Rafuse, children, Richard (Ashley) Rafuse and Denise Rafuse, and only grandchild Tanisha (Tyler) Rafuse and a special little girl Zoey Knodel. Donnie is also survived by his sisters Winnie (Bob) Evanson, Betty (Murray) Eisnor, Connie (Jacob) Penney and brother Frank (Viola) Rafuse. There are many nieces and nephews who will also miss him.
Born in Parkdale, Nova Scotia, Donnie was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Sadie (Faulkenham) Rafuse, and his brothers Maxwell (Beulah) Rafuse, Roby (Vivian) Rafuse, Calvin (Joyce) Rafuse, Thomas (Margaret) Sauber, and Gerald (Alice) Rafuse, and his sisters Reta Rafuse, Angeline (Earl) MacDonald, and Belle Rafuse.
Donnie’s career started in 1964 as a member of the Dartmouth City Police Department and later amalgamated to Halifax Regional Police where he retired in 1997 after 34 years. He had a passion for hunting, fishing and car races. After retirement, he enjoyed car shows and daily story telling and telling jokes at various Tim Horton’s. Donnie was very proud of his family and all of their accomplishments. He enjoyed spending time in Parkdale-Maplewood at his family homestead. Donnie will be most remembered as saying, “come here, let me tell (show) you something for a minute” or cracking his ears. His knowledge of useless information was endless. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
A huge thank you to the staff on 5.1 CVICU at the QEII for the exceptional care that they provided. Visitation will be held from 6:00-9:00 p.m. on Friday November 29th at Dartmouth Funeral Home 29 Queen St, Dartmouth. Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday November 30th at Cole Harbour Woodside United Church at 15 Bissett Rd, Cole Harbour. Rev. Krista Elizabeth Winn, officiating Burial will follow at a later date in Parkdale-Maplewood.
