LIEGLER, Leopold Johann
It is with great sadness that the family of Leo Liegler share his passing on November 25, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at the Haldimand War Memorial Hospital in Dunnville in his 88th year. Leo was born in Vienna, Austria on July 4, 1932. He immigrated to Canada in 1951 and sailed on the Fairsea landing in Halifax on December 4 to start a new life. Leo married the love of his life, Lorraine, in 1956. He was a proud father to Renee (Allan), Kim (Rob), Brenda (Dave), Pam and Lisa (Rich); a devoted Papa to grandchildren Byran (Amber), Ryan (Melissa), Cameron (Sarah), Kristen (Nate), Kelsey (Brandon), Trent (Kailyn) and Colton; and a dedicated Opa to great-grandchildren Beaudon and Bennett; Leo, Chloe and George; Ella, Gracin and Walker; Kaden, Jaxson, Kace and Kamryn; and Blakely. Leo is predeceased by his parents August and Hermine and was a loving brother to Josefine (deceased), Alois ((deceased), Leopoldine (deceased)), Augustine (Alois (deceased)), Hermine (Fritz (deceased)), Fritz ((deceased) Eva) and Robert (Brigitta), a cherished Onkel Poldi to many nieces and nephews in Austria and Uncle Leo to those in Canada. Always the hard worker, Leo established Liegler Building Systems not long after immigrating and operated a very successful business for almost 60 years. In his retirement, Leo developed a passion for woodturning and delighted family members with his many creations. He was a past member of the Golden Horseshoe Woodturners Guild in Burlington and enjoyed meeting with other club members and learning new skills. In their 63 years of marriage, Leo and Lorraine enjoyed travelling throughout Europe, including many trips to his beloved Austria to visit family, wonderful family vacations to Florida and driving excursions to Northern Ontario. They have been members of the Continental Austrian Club in Burlington for decades where they enjoyed many dinners and events with family and friends. Leo will be especially remembered for his big heart, sense of humour, and never-ending love for his family. A special thanks to Dr. Bernard and all staff at the hospital for their tremendous care, support and compassion. Leo also received incredible care at home prior to hospitalization from CCAC and VON (Melissa). A private family service is to be held on Friday November 29, 2019 at Miller Funeral Chapel in Cayuga. In memory of Leo, the family would appreciate donations to the Dunnville Hospital & Healthcare Foundation (DHHF) or Parkinson Canada.
