With great sadness, the family of Hildegard Schneider announce that Hildegard died suddenly on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at her home in St. Albert.
She is survived by her three children: Richard (Alina) Schneider, Sylvia (Ron) Rose, Renita (Michael) Falkenstern; four grandchildren: Desiree, Anika, Sasha, and Serena; two step-grandchildren: Nathan (Chelsey) and Lara (Blake) as well as many nieces, nephews, and two step-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Fred and her parents, Eduard and Theresa.
Hildegard was born in Cogealac, a German village in Romania. She left Romania with her family at the age of four, and was a displaced person for fourteen years, before finally emigrating to Canada at age 16. She met Fred Schneider at a dance at the famous Trianon ballroom and they were married a year later on May 25, 1957. In 1970, the family moved out to a farm south of Regina where, over the span of 33 years, they transformed 40 acres of bald prairie into an oasis of nature. In 2002, Hildegard and Fred moved to St. Albert to share in the lives of their new grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and a gracious host. She also delighted in her garden and grew the most magnificent roses. Hildegard was devoted to her family and was a source of wisdom and strength. She was a faithful friend who stayed in touch with her life-long pals from Regina, as well as her new card-playing friends in Edmonton and St. Albert.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 2, 2019 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 10759 96 Street, Edmonton, Alberta.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
