Terrance Leo (Dewey) King
Little Bras d’Or
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dewey King, age 73, on Saturday, November 16, 2019, in the An Cala unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, when the precious arms of Jesus took him home.
Born in Little Bras d’Or on June 5, 1946, he was the son of the late John James (Jack) and Millie King.
Dewey was an autobody man by trade. His love of old cars was a great passion, as was evident by his career. He worked in Alder Point at Willie MacNeil’s Auto Body for many years, then retired, and worked in his own garage, doing the same. Dewey loved fishing, driving, going for coffee, attending Screaming Eagles games, and talking to his deaf friends.
He leaves behind special friends Danny White, Freddie Cantwell, Wayne Boudreau, Joe Reashor, and George Rahey. He loved spending time with his precious angel Hayley Marie Chopeck, whom he adored, and lit up his life. He also loved chatting and tormenting his favourite girls; Joann Chopeck, Michelle Stewart, Angela Capstick MacNeil, and her three cuties.
Dewey is survived by his loving wife Sophie King, daughter Mary MacNeil (Shaun), sisters Ann MacLennan (Wayne), Helen March (Joe), sister-in-law Verna King, brothers Kevin King (Roseann), and Jimmy King, as well as many favourite nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters Marguerite Quirk, Betty Mynruk, Bernadette Noble King, brothers Lawrence (Butch) King, John (Sonny) King, William (Buddy) King, nephews Alonzo March and Joey King.
Special thanks to Dr. Helyer, Dr. Rendon (Halifax), Dr. Eugene Ignacio (Danielle-secretary), everyone in the chemo and radiation department of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Dr. Osbourne and everyone on the An Cala Palliative Care Unit, and a very special thanks to Dr. Kelly. Donations in Dewey’s memory may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre in Sydney.
Visitation for Dewey will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A celebration of his life will take place Thursday at 10:30 am in St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. The burial will be in the parish cemetery. A reception will be held in the parish hall after the burial. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
