Cheng, Ian I
November 11th, 2019
Passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by his family, at Victoria Hospital, on Monday, November 11, 2019, in his 64th year. He is survived by his wife, Joan Hyde, and their children, Kristen Cheng, of Peterborough, and Tyler Cheng, of Morgantown, West Virginia. Also survived by sisters Susan Cheng (David Hoy) and Terry Cheng (George King), and their families, as well as many Chien and Cheng aunts, uncles and cousins. He will also be missed by his billet sons Aaron Berisha and Kole Sherwood. Ian was predeceased by his parents, Olive Chien and HsinHsia Cheng. Ian came to Canada with his family from Taiwan in his early teens and settled in Toronto. He was a proud alumnus of Lakehead University, but even prouder of being a professional engineer. For the past 18 years Ian worked for J-AAR Excavating and absolutely loved his job and his co-workers. Ian believed in giving back to his community and did this through his affiliation with Southwest Optimist, Southwest Optimist Competitive Soccer, Professional Engineers of Ontario London Chapter, Gold Medal Basketball and the Canadian Chinese National Council, London Chapter. Ian was an avid supporter of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors, Toronto Blue Jays and, of course, The London Knights. Special thanks to the excellent and compassionate staff at Victoria Hospital – Critical Care Unit. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, Ontario, where a Celebration of Life will be conducted on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. Cremation has taken place. A private interment will take place at a later date.
