Peacefully at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at the age of 85. Earl Slack, beloved husband and loving partner of the late Joan Slack (2014), for 56 wonderful years. Cherished Dad of Brian Slack and his wife Diane, Tracy Sauder (nee Slack) and Julie Slack (Mark Leahy). Much loved Grandpa of Tyson, Brittany and Luke. Predeceased by his parents Charles and Ella Mae Slack. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. After graduating from Queen’s University in 1957 as a chemical engineer, Earl worked at Procter & Gamble for 18 years, formulated many products that people still use today such as Tide laundry detergent, Crest toothpaste and Duncan Hines Cake mixes. Because the job required travel and time away from his family, Earl decided to switch careers. He went back to school and graduated from Brock University in 1976. He became a secondary school math and science teacher with the Niagara District Secondary School Board, eventually becoming the Science Department head at Thorold Secondary School. He retired after 25 years. He was a devout Habs and Jays fan, and his love of the game will live on in his children and grandchildren. Earl will also be missed by his beloved cat and companion Mia whom he adored. He will be missed dearly.Visitation at STONEHOUSE-WHITCOMB FUNERAL HOME, 11 Mountain Street, GRIMSBY (905-945-2755) on_Sunday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will take place on Monday, November 11, 2019, at Centennial Park Baptist Church, 11 Kennedy Road, Grimsby, at 12 p.m. Interment to follow at Queen’s Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
