Obituary of Allen James Ascott
Ascott, Allen James
October 18, 1948 – November 29, 2019
We celebrate the life and mourn the passing of Allen James Ascott. Beloved husband and sweetheart of Shirley. Devoted son of Jean Ascott and predeceased by his dear father, James. Proud and loving father of Marnie Johnstone (Curtis), Amy Dawson (Gregg), and Allison Oyston (Michael) and stepfather of Susan Getty (Jamie Willis) and Ryan Getty (Rosalie). Cherished grandpa to 7 boys – Brett and Cody Willis, Evan and Nathan Johnstone, Lennox Oyston, and Gabriel and Raziel Getty. Dear brother of Cathy Coulter (late Doug) and Julie Heinrichs (Ed). Brother-in-law of Roberta Chepeka (Tom) and the late Barry Bostwick (Hannelore). Allen will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews, and many cousins with whom he shared wonderful childhood memories. He will also be missed by his longtime friend and coffee companion, Bob “Ranger” Smith. Al and Shirley enjoyed many years of adventures together. They traveled near and far to add new birds to their life list. Allen had a kind heart and he loved everything that grew – flowers, trees and animals. He spent long days working on and enjoying his gardens and enjoyed spoiling his many cats and dogs over the years. Allen also loved the village of Wheatley and spent countless hours driving the back roads of Kent and Es counties. Allen was Past Worshipful Master and current Secretary Treasurer of the Xenophon Lodge No. 448 Masonic Hall. Visiting at the Reid Funeral Home & Reception Centre, 14 Russell Street, Leamington on Monday from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service to Celebrate Allen’s life will be held, from the funeral home, on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at 2 pm. Interment at a later date. Xenophon Lodge No. 448 Masonic Hall Lodge Service Monday at 7 pm. If you wish to donate in Allen’s memory, donations (made by cheque) to Wheatley United Church or to Erie Shores Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
