Obituary
It is with extreme sadness that the family of Robert (Bob) Campbell announce his passing which occurred suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday November 10, 2019 at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. He is the son of Marjorie (Boudreau) and the late Kenneth Robert Campbell.
Along with his mother Marjorie, Robert will be forever missed by his loving wife, soul mate and best friend Gesine Campbell. He will also be remembered by his children, Samantha Higgins, Angela (Joseph) Campbell, Gregory (Sandy) Kryska and Andrew (Sarah) Kryska. His grandchildren; Heather, Jeremey, Dominic, Jedidiah, Eric, Jordan, Reece, Ethan, Thaddeus, Tyler, Miguel, Hope, Noah, Ian, Trey and Carly. His siblings Jaqueline (Paul) Price, Richard (Ann) Campbell and Paula (James) Maher, several niece and nephews as well as cousins and the endless list of friends he made throughout his lifetime.
Robert was a giant of a man in stature, heart and the impact he left on this world. He started his career with Canada Revenue Agency in 1974 and became an activist on the UTE (Union of Taxation Employees) local 60005. He quickly realized his passion for defending others and ensuring that their rights were respected. Robert would hold multiple positions within the Union organization starting as a local steward and eventually being elected National President of UTE for two terms before retiring in July 2017. He was and will always be remembered as a man of honour and his word was his bond. He was a role model for so many union activists and many who went on to successful roles in the union.
He was an intimidating presence and the most-gentle giant at the same time. He was often referred to as a teddy bear and anyone who knew him, knew he wore his heart on his sleeve. Robert could command a room filled with hundreds of people or have a personal conversation with any individual about who they were because he was genuinely interested.
Robert was caring and generous to a fault and loved by his family. He never knew the impact that his influence had but those of us that are left to mourn him know that a man like Robert comes along once in a lifetime. We were lucky to know and love him and will continue to cherish the memories we made and will make sure to share our stories of Robert with the next generation.
His alter ego “Tugboat” will be remembered as one of the Twin Towers who worked as a bouncer at the now infamous AQ for many years. He met many individuals who would go on to become lifelong friends.
But his most coveted role was husband, father and papa. He loved nothing more than family time and “papa time” with his grandchildren. He would search across the country if need be for a special gift requested by a grandchild. He enjoyed endless rides on his Harley with his grandkids, wife and by himself enjoying the scenery and the wind therapy.
Farewell sweet man may you ride off into eternity with the wind in your hair and a smile on your face as you did not get to enjoy the retirement planned by you and your wife.
He was predeceased by his Father Kenneth Robert and his grandson Tristan Higgins along with several aunts and uncles.
Robert will be resting at the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd (646-2424). As we await his arrival from Ottawa, Ontario, we ask that you check back on our website for updated service information and dates.
Memorial donations can be made towards The Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice this would be appreciated by the family.
