ROY D. STEINER
It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Roy D. Steiner early in the morning of October 27, 2019 at Kenora General Hospital.
Roy is survived by wife Wanda; children, Shannon, Burt, Ryan (Holly) and Paul; grandchildren, Nathan and Tori. He is also survived by his brothers, Ron and Rob (Joan); niece Kathleen and nephews, James and Doug; cousins in Los Angeles and Vancouver, and his Aunt Delores. He was predeceased by his parents, Madge and Ralph Steiner.
Roy was born May 20, 1941 in Winnipeg and moved as a young boy to Los Angeles with his family. He and his brothers formed the Steiner Brothers Act, a combination of comedy, singing and dancing. They toured Canada, the US and countries overseas. They also travelled as good will ambassadors for Canada with CBC around the world.
Roy returned to Winnipeg as a young man and eventually moved to London, Ontario with his young family to manage a number of Yamaha Piano Stores. After a few years, he returned to Winnipeg, where he met and married Wanda. They shared a love of Malachi Lake where they built a home. They moved there full time with Paul for a few years and formed lasting friendships with those who lived there full time. They also travelled, going south to Mexico for sun and sand in the winters.
Roy was an avid fisherman and was always adding to his collection of lures and fish-finders!! He spent many hours on the lake and working at the cottage, cutting wood and adding buildings to the property. He was always willing to help anyone who needed a hand. The close-knit group at the lake not only socialized but looked out for each other.
He and his brothers remained very close and since they were all retired, would hop on the train (no matter how late it was) and head to Malachi for a few days of fishing and relaxing. Roy will be greatly missed by his loving wife Wanda, his family and many friends.
Special thanks to Kim and Clay Reichert and Clay Ingram for assisting Roy and helping him get the medical help he needed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Siloam Mission.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 1, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg.
