Ronald « Ron » Charles Siteman
April 20, 1955 – September 30, 2019
Ronald (Ron) Charles Siteman, age 64 of Cole Harbour passed away peacefully September 30, 2019 at Oakwood Terrace Nursing Home.
Born on April 20th, 1955 in Halifax Nova Scotia to Harold and Rowena Siteman (Langdon), he was the youngest of three siblings. He grew up in Woodside Imperoyal (Dartmouth) attending North Woodside School, Prince Arthur Junior High and Prince Andrew High School before graduating from Saint Mary’s University with his Bachelor of Education degree. Throughout his life, Ron shared his passion for music in many ways both inside and outside the classroom. In his working life, he inspired generations of youth through teaching Music and English in the Halifax Regional School System in addition to teaching guitar and voice to aspiring musicians of all ages at the Halifax Folklore Centre. Outside of work life, he shared his gift of music and song through many musical groups in the community for more than 50 years including Triple Image, Gardiner West and Canticle, to name only a few. Throughout his university years and for many years afterwards, he was highly involved in music at the Saint Mary’s Chaplaincy. Alongside his long-time Triple Image bandmates and close friends Susanna Morash-Kent, Ed Barnstead and Phillip Amirault, they have performed concerts throughout the Metro area and beyond for over 35 years. Always willing to play anywhere, the band has entertained thousands of people and fundraised for many organizations including the Parkinson’s Foundation. Throughout the years, Ron banked many amazing memories alongside wife Ann Marie (Archibald) and son John, where they lived out dreams travelling all over Canada and the United States, spending as much time together as they could. Camping was not initially a favourite activity but became a special thing to do as a family and with friends.
Ron is survived by his wife of 23 years Ann Marie and son John, mother-in-law Grace Archibald, brother-in-law Jim (Angela) Archibald, sister-in-law Judy Siteman, nieces Christine Siteman, Angela (Darren) Demings, Michael and Mathew Archibald, great-nephew Cole Siteman, great-nieces Kassidy and Bailey Demings, as well as several cousins. Ron was predeceased by his parents, his brother Howard and his sister Shirley.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 4th from 7-9 pm at Cole Harbour Woodside United Church (15 Bissett Road, Cole Harbour). As Ron loved to share his joy of music and stories, we are asking people to bring their guitars, instruments and stories and celebrate his life like he would have wanted- with a musical celebration. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, October 5th at 2 pm, also at Cole Harbour Woodside, with The Reverend Michael Mugford officiating, a reception following in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Society Maritime Region, the Cole Harbour Woodside United Church Choir or a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Dartmouth Funeral Home, Queen Street. Online condolences by visiting www.dartmouthfuneralhome.ca
