Marion Bremner (The Chief) Featherstone, after having pitched a nearly perfect game, has rounded third and slid safe into home plate on October 3, 2019.
Born Marion Dickson on May 6, 1938 in Lower Napan, New Brunswick, she was raised in Innisfree, AB. She lived on the Featherstone Farm Darwell, AB. Marion passed away October 3, 2019 at Westview Hospital in Stony Plain.
Marion was predeceased by her husband, Allen (1993), brother, Campbell (1963), sister, Ethel (2005) and parents, Henderson and Rena Dickson.
She is survived by her son, Chauncey (Alice Hamelin) and grandsons, Kyle, Bryce and Jordan and daughter, Shirley (Nigel Dixon) all of Edmonton; sister Annabelle Johnson of Taylor, BC; and brother Bliss (Betty) Dickson of Vermilion, AB. Marion is also survived by her best friend, partner in crime, and sister in everything but name, Sharon McConnell.
Mom’s sense of belonging was grounded largely in the fact that she belonged to everything; from the Darwell Agricultural Society to the Ladies Fastball Team where she earned her place as a triple-threat as pitcher, catcher or first base. She finished the 2018-19 bowling season in Wabamun and kept her beloved Darwell Jamboree going for 25 years after Dad’s passing. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend, She belonged.
We, the family, would like to thank the tremendous nursing and medical staff of the Westview Acute Care Unit for their professionalism and generosity of spirit in Mom’s time of need. Many thanks as well to Bert and Carole Featherstone for their good humour, chauffer services and perfectly timed care packages. And our most heartfelt thanks to our rock, Sharon McConnell who, when Mom no longer had a herd of her own, gave Mom a place to be a farmgirl for the rest of her life.
Celebration of Life to be held at the Darwell Community Hall, Saturday October 19, 2019 at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Darwell Agricultural Society.
