Harry William Booth September 2, 1928 – October 19,2019
After a long and courageous battle with that evil disease called cancer – Harry has peacefully passed at home in Orillia surrounded by family. Treasured husband of M. Louise Booth (nee Bayard), resident of Oak Terrace, recently celebrated their 61st year of marriage. Loving father of Tammy (Randy), Kenneth (Shelley), Glenn (Chantal) and Bryon. Harry will be dearly missed by his by his grandchildren Marissa, Vanessa, Ryan, Jodi-Lynne and Victoria as well as by his great-grandchildren Dredsen and Max. Son of the late G. Roy and Gladys Booth from Huntsville, brother of the late Frank (Doris) Booth of Orillia and Fred (Marion) Booth of Arnprior.
Born in Huntsville and with several stops in Quebec and British Columbia, Harry and Louise settled in Orillia, raised a family, worked and retired from National Grocers and enjoyed life together over the next 60 years. Harry will always be known for his strong will & determination no matter the subject. He is also known for his hobbies of collecting coins, charter member of the Champlain Coin Club & the Canadian Tire Coupon Collectors Club plus many others, as well as his passion for hunting for over 75 years and especially for garage sales – so if you ever had a garage sale listed on Saturday in The Packet then you surely have met Harry. Harry was never one to pass up a deal – particularly if it “only cost a quarter” was one of his favourite sayings.
Harry strived to keep a promise he made to his father-in-law, Eduard Bayard, that he would take care of Louise every day of his life and he lived up to that every day as the illness progressed in Louise to the point that she went to live at Oak Terrace. Harry did not miss very many daily visits to Louise.
Harry’s wish is to thank Oak Terrace and their tremendous staff who will continue to care for Louise; to Andrea and the many other daily care givers that made it possible for him to remain at home until the end; to Cathy for her daily routine, to Vanessa for her round the clock vigilance; to Dr. Harry Hall of Orillia, Dr. J. Irish, the doctors and staff at Sunnybrooke Hospital in Toronto for previous illnesses, and a special thank you to Dr. Marc Italiano and his wife, Sandra, for the care, guidance, wisdom and compassion for keeping him pain free throughout his latest struggle.
Cremation for Harry has taken place, after a brief immediate family goodbye, as per his wishes. Interment will be at St. Andrews-St. James Cemetery in the family plots will be in the future when Louise is ready to join him. The family will hold a joint Celebration of Life for Harry and Louise at a future date and notice of that Celebration will be provided in due course.
