Obituary of Barbara JOAN Cockcroft
COCKCROFT – Barbara JOAN (nee Hayton) of Port Colborne passed peacefully at Port Colborne General Hospital on October 16, 2019 in her 89th year. Very dear mother of Brenda Shatkosky (Richard) of East Lansing Michigan, Tim Denis Cockcroft (Beth) of St. Catharines and Marcia Boros (David) of Port Colborne. Joan was the lucky, loving Grandmother to Lacey Turcotte (Dan) of Welland, Ryan Boros and Alicia Boros of Port Colborne. Loved and missed by step Grandchildren Julie, Laura and Rebecca Rorison, Jennie Marlatt (Brandon) and Kristy Blay (Jay) as well as great Grandchildren Jayden, Pierson and Matayah. Also survived by many nieces and nephews across Canada and the UK. She was predeceased by her loving husband Denis, by her parents Harold and Orma Hayton and her brother Robert Hayton (Dawn). Joan was born and educated in Calgary where she studied to be an X-Ray Technician before moving to London Ontario where she met Denis and the two married in 1953 and moved to Port Colborne in 1955. She loved to play the piano and sing and served many years in the choir at Central United Church. She bowled, curled and golfed as well as serving as a member or the IODE, the UCW and the Lioness Club. But at the heart of it all was her family. The family itself would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the NHS at Welland and Port Colborne, Dr. Sabina Keene and Shirley Hawkey, the wonderful staff and residents at Portal Village and especially Sarah Sharpe of Family Links and Patti and Donna. The Family will recieve visitors at the DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOME, 135 Clarence Street, Port Colborne, on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral service will be held at Central United Church in Port Colborne on Tuesday October 22, 2019 at 11 am. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to the Niagara Children’s Centre.
