Stephen Douglas “Sully Sullivan

Sullivan, Stephen Douglas “Sully” – Age 71, of West Chezzetcook. After living for many years with Parkinson’s disease and its many complications, Stephen passed away peacefully on September 3, 2019.
Stephen was predeceased by his parents, Cyril “Cerry” and Ruth (Ritchie) Sullivan; and his brother, Danny. He is survived by his wife, Pam Livingstone; son, Joel (Heather-Jean Matheson), Porters Lake; daughter, Adrienne, Vancouver; sister, Pat (John) Emmett, Bedford; brother, Terry (Tracey), Cole Harbour; sister-in-law, Debbie (Ken) Opper, Campbellville, Ont.; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Although poor health limited his activities over the last number of years, this was not always the case. After a year at S.M.U., Stephen decided to travel. He went to Europe, attending the Sorbonne in Paris for a term to improve his French. An avid cyclist, when he returned to Halifax he decided to bicycle from coast to coast, before such a trek was popular. His second cycling journey was from Halifax to Texas, where he stayed for several months, working as a veterinary assistant in Brownsville. Having temporarily resolved his wanderlust, Stephen returned to Halifax and attended N.S.I.T. taking carpentry, a career he pursued until his health dictated otherwise. He could often be seen cycling the city streets with a pair of English Setters trotting along with him. He was very artistic, preferring to draw but also dabbling in painting. Wood carving was another talent. Stephen and Pam lived in Edmonton and Lac La Biche, Alta., and Victoria, B.C., before returning to Nova Scotia and settling in West Chezzetcook, where he spent many hours cruising Porters Lake in his old wooden boat.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit. There will be a celebration of Stephen’s life from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday, September 20th in Ste. Therese Community Centre, Conrod Rd., Grand Desert. Family burial will be held at a later date.
Thank you to the staff of Admiral Long Term Care Centre for taking good care of Stephen on this part of his journey. A special thank you to Pat for always being there, and being so attentive to Stephen throughout his lengthy illness. For those who wish, donations in Stephen’s memory may be made to Parkinson Canada.
