At the age of 70 years, Raymond Van Woensel of Swan Lake MB passed away on Wednesday 11 September 2019 at Boundary Trails Health Centre, Morden MB.
Born in Swan Lake on 11 September 1949, he was the eldest of 6 children. He had many adventures with his siblings growing up on the farm that he would buy from his parents in 1974. Hard work and a commitment to family were expected. He left school at 14 to work on the farm and family hardware business.
Raymond married his life long companion Cathy in 1969. They raised three children while working their mixed grain and dairy farm. Ever the entrepreneurs, they also had beef cattle, chickens, pigs and the occasional Muscovy duck.
Work and play often combined throughout his good life. After retiring from farming in 2005, he went on to careers in welding and trucking. He enjoyed the company of his family, friends and co-workers. He retired only after surgery for throat cancer in 2015.
Raymond was an avid bowler and loved to shoot the breeze with his friends. With retirement and some free time, Raymond and Cathy began to travel and often go out for lunch. They began to watch baseball and – to the bewilderment of their children – enjoyed it.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Cathy, his children Diane (Harold Sehn), Marcel and Rayleen (Kevin Van Damme); three grandchildren Samantha (Scott Kehler-Manko) Jordan and Sawyer Van Damme and great-grandchildren Landyn Miazga-Sehn and Jack Kehler-Manko. Raymond was predeceased by his parents and grandchild Lily Van Damme.
Raymond appreciated everything that was done for him. He had several health issues but met them with humour and perseverance. We will miss him.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday September 18, 2019 at 2:00 pm in the St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, Swan Lake MB, with Father Vincent Lusty as Celebrant. Interment to follow in the St. Martin of Tours Parish Cemetery.
