It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Philip Lawrence Brown on Sunday, September 22, 2019 after a short battle with an aggressive cancer. Husband of Marlene, father of Kara (Ray) Stevens and Jennifer (Rob) Shannon. Grandfather to Katelyn, Rebecca and Alyssa.
Born in Belleville, Phil lived in many places growing up, travelling with his family who were involved in ministry. Phil was a Vietnam Veteran of the USAF as an airplane mechanic, recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Marksmanship Ribbon, and Good Conduct Medal. After his discharge, he attended Ryerson Polytechnical Institute and worked as an industrial engineer at Crane Canada, Blackstone, Collins & Aikman in Stratford and BM Ross in Goderich.
Phil will be remembered by many in Stratford and surrounding community for umpiring Stratford Minor Baseball games, as a member of the Energy & Environment Committee or cheerfully offering a coffee or his glasses to assist the referees from his perennial seat behind the penalty box at the Stratford Culliton hockey games.
As per his wishes there will be no funeral service, however we welcome family and friends to a celebration of his life at the A.N.A.F Veterans Unit 261 Inc. at 151 Lorne Ave. E, Stratford on Sunday September 29th from 2-5pm.
His family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the dedicated staff at the Stratford Rotary Hospice for their compassion and dedication in assisting Phil in his final week. In remembrance, donations may be made to the Stratford Rotary Hospice Foundation directly at www.stratfordperthhospice.ca/donate, through Rutherford Cremation & Funeral Services website at www.jarfh.com or by calling 519-271-5062.
