It is was sad hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our father, William (Bruce) MacCabe on August 29, 2019 in Nelson at the age of 81.
Bruce was born in Vancouver on April 14th,1938 and was adopted by Winifred and Archibald MacCabe of Castlegar. He was raised in South Slocan until he moved to Trail to pursue his accounting career where he worked for Tech Cominco as well as a small accounting firm.
It was in Trail where he met his wife Gay and were married in 1963. In 1969 they moved to Nelson where Bruce continued his accounting career.
Bruce was very active within the communities he resided, including the Jaycees in Trail and later becoming a very active member of Gyros in Nelson. He also served as treasurer with the Nelson Curling Rink and Whitewater ski hill.
Bruce really enjoyed his time outside which included making fresh tracks in midweek powder (Bruce hit the slopes until he was 79 years old!) to spending time at the family cabin at Christina Lake in the summers. He really enjoyed throwing parties and there was no shortage of fun times at Christina Lake with the annual famous Lobster weekend party to after parties from a curling bonspiel. He was our “keeper of the flame” and anyone that tasted his BBQ dinners with his secret BBQ sauce was always in for a treat.
Bruce also had an incredible knack for local history with the ability to spout off historic details of the area from historic mining to what it was like growing up in South Slocan as a boy during the war.
The last few years of Bruce’s life became bittersweet to witness as he displayed an unwaivered commitment to be by our mothers side during her health decline. He would visit our mother daily and bring flowers on occasions that celebrated a better past. He was the epitome of “Till death do us part”.
Bruce will be missed by his family and many friends who were lucky to have had the pleasure of spending time with him.
The family would like to thank Dr. McKechnie and Dr. Tuvel for their compassionate care of our father while he was hospitalized. Also, many thanks to the 3rd floor team at Kootenay Lake Hospital.
At Bruce’s request, there will be no service. Rest in Peace Pa
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de MacCabe William Bruce..
