Kenneth MacLeod « Ken » Murray
1922-2019
Kenneth
MacLeod « Ken » Murray – 97, Truro, passed away
peacefully on Sunday, August 18, 2019, at Wynn Park Villa, Truro. Born
in Earltown, he was the son of the late Rod and Barbara (MacLeod)
Murray, and was raised on the family farm.
Ken served
his country proudly during World War II with the Canadian Grenadier
Guards and was recently appointed as a Knight of the National Order of
the Legion of Honour by the Government of the Republic of France as
well as the receiving the Legion of Honour medal from the Government
of France, their highest medal. After the war, Ken worked for 40 years
for the federal government, the last 27 with the Agriculture Division
of Statistics Canada. Ken was always very active in the church and the
community.
He was an
elder at St. James Presbyterian Church for many years where he was a
member of St James Men’s Club and on a large number of other
church initiatives and served on the 4th Truro
Scouts Group Committee. He had been an active member of the Odd
Fellows, and Scouts Canada – Colchester District. He has
also been a continual member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26
for 74 years – the longest continual member of this branch.
He was involved with numerous charities over the years including
Colchester Food Bank, Canadian Cancer Society and Heart and
Stroke Foundation.
Ken was
always seen walking and would give a quick wave to everyone. He lived
on Churchill Street with his wife June for over 50 years where he
could be found either working in his garden or talking to the
neighbours. He enjoyed joking around and his friends would often be on
the brunt end of his well-intentioned jokes. His biggest joy came from
spending time with his family and in helping others.
Ken is
survived by his loving wife, June; children, Paul (Jane), Ottawa; John
(Susan), Valley; adored grandchildren, Christopher, Jeffrey,
Melissa, Peter; several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he
was predeceased by his siblings, Allister, Sybil, Marion.
Ken’s family extends its sincere gratitude to the wonderful
staff at Wynn Park Villa for all their love, support, respect and
care.
