Keith Atkin Carpenter, born in Windsor Ontario, 1924, passed at Trillium Lodge in Parksville, B.C. on September 4, 2019.
Keith was predeceased by his father George and mother Jessie and two brothers, Richard (Toronto Ont) and Glen Calif) . He is survived by his loving wife Beverley (Ford) Carpenter of 75 years and his children Stephanie (Kingston Ont.), Colleen (Edmonton Ab.) and Shelley (Victoria BC). Bev and Keith have been blessed with 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Following his service with the Canadian Forces in WWII Keith attended Western University where he attained a teaching degree. After teaching for two years Keith volunteered to serve with the Canadian Forces in Korea. He was commissioned as a lieutenant with the Royal 22nd (Vandoos) in Quebec City prior to being posted to Korea. He served there for two years.
Upon returning to Canada, Keith served a 33 year career in the military during which he achieved the rank of Major. His career included postings to Lahr Germany, Halifax, Pettawawa, Edmonton and Vancouver. During this time Bev and Keith moved 27 times.
Upon leaving the military Keith worked with Social Services and Community Health in Edmonton. Bev and Keith eventually settled in Qualicum Beach, BC where they have lived in the same home for 30 years.
A service in Keith’s memory will be held at Church of the Ascension Catholic Church 887 Wembley Rd, Parksville on September 18, 2019 at 1 pm. Tea to follow.
