James Everette (Jimmy) Pero
Sydney Mines
It is with very sad hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved James Everette Pero, age 85, on Monday, September 2, 2019, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Florence on January 26, 1934, he was the son of the late John and Rebecca (Bonnar) Pero.
Jimmy was very well known, respected and loved in his community. For many years, he owned and operated Pero’s Club in Sydney Mines. It was a place where all the boys gathered, played pool, shared stories, and planned how they could make their community a better place by forming the Sydney Mines Sportsman Club. The members of the club completed numerous projects that raised substantial amounts of money, which they were able to donate to various organizations, and to those in need in their community. Pero’s Club held very fond memories for Jimmy. He loved and thought highly of each and every guy that spent valuable time with him. He considered all the BOYS family. Five years ago, all of the guys gathered to celebrate Jimmy, and that was truly the highlight of his life.
Jimmy was also a member of Holy Family Parish in Sydney Mines, and was certainly a man of faith, and deeply loved God. Even in the hospital he was preaching how we should love one another, and that is just what he did. Jimmy was also a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 2024, Sydney Mines.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Frances LeBlanc of Millville, and his two beautiful sisters, Rebecca (Bunnie) DiPersio, Sydney Mines, and Elva King, Watertown, Mass.; brothers-in-law Percy (Jose), Adrian (Shelly), sisters-in-law June (Joe) Kowalski, Gladys (John Morris), Donna, Rose (Wayne) Carey, Marlene, Linda (Patrick) Marsh, and many nieces and nephews who thought the world of him, and loved him deeply.
Besides his parents, Jimmy was predeceased by his brothers William (Dick), Alex, Ray, Lorne, Basil and Jack Pero, sisters May Ivey, Millie Coady and Eileen Moore, father and mother-in-law William and Loretta LeBlanc, brothers-in-law Buddy, Gordon, Elmer, Hector DiPersio, Cas Coady, Jim Ivey, Leroy Moore and David King, and sisters-in-law Theresa and Hilda.
The family would like to take this opportunity to express our sincerest gratitude to the devoted, compassionate staff of 5 East at the Northside General Hospital, and also Dr. Michel McKeough and Louise. Thank you for treating Jimmy with such kindness and respect while always providing excellent care.
Visitation for Jimmy Pero will take place on Friday, September 6, 2019, from 5-8 pm in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, at 10 am in Holy Family Church, with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome
