Horace « Sonny »‘s Obituary
Patriquin, Horace Floyd “Sonny” – Passed away peacefully with his family by his side Monday, September 9, 2019 in the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. A son of the late Ainslie and Patricia (Alexander) Patriquin. Sonny was a jack of all trades it seems – crane operator at Folly Lake, member of Armed Forces, Department of Lands and Forests, school bus driver and gravel truck driver. Sonny worked for many years running his own forestry company, first with horses and then with a porter. Playing music was his passion; Merle Haggard was his idol. His band, The Country Rebels, was well-known across Cumberland County, particularly at the Lamp Cabin and Legion in Springhill. Sonny enjoyed watching sports of any kind, coaching baseball for many years and a die hard Detroit Red Wings fan. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias #26 Oxford and attended Friday jam sessions in Oxford. Sonny was a lover of animals. He adored his wife “Carrie”, his children and all his grandbabies. Survived by wife of 63 years, the former Carole Annis; children, Cheryl Boyd; Michael (Terry); Susan; Doug (Danielle); Cindy (Larry) Roberts; Patti (Lawson) Purdy; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; brothers, Wendell (Valerie); Reginald (Brenda); Daryl (Heather); Lee; sister, Barbara Ewart. Predeceased by daughter, Deborah Polley; brothers, Dennis and Brian; sister, Pansy Legere, father and mother-in-law, Harry and Irene (Brownell) Annis; sons-in-law, Mark Crowley and Glen Boyd. Special thanks to VON Cumberland, East Cumberland Lodge and nursing staff surgical unit and Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, September 13, with funeral service at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 14, both in MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, 5075 Main St., Oxford (902-447-2930).
