It is with sad and heavy hearts that we announce the death of our dear mother Hazel “Mary” Freake (nee Burry) on September 25, 2019 at the age of 87 years at the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre, Twillingate, NL. She will be sadly missed by her family and the larger community. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt.
She is predeceased by her husband James, parents Andrew & Jane Burry, sister Elsie Culmer ask brother Andrew.
Leaving to mourn one daughter Celeste (Burke), sons James (Gladys), Frederick, grandson Jason (Shelley), great-grandchildren Autumn, Daniel James, Max, sister Esther Pope, brother Israel Burry, Jason’s mother Ada as well as a large number of nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family and friends.
Hazel was a very hard working woman who loved the outdoors and working side by side with her husband in his sawmill. She loved her three children unconditionally and was proud of their accomplishments. She was excellent at such crafts as knitting, quilting and crocheting, had a well kept home and was known as furiously independent and spirited with a lot of wisdom, intuitivism, humor, intelligence and appreciation for traditions. She enjoyed her many visits to Nova Scotia, Maine and Toronto.
Public visitation will be held on Friday, September 26, 2019 from 2-4 p.m. at New World Island Funeral Home, Summerford, NL. Funeral service will take place from St. George’s Anglican Church, Boyd’s Cove, NL on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Stella Mills officiating. Interment will follow from the Anglican cemetery, Boyd’s Cove, NL.
Donations may be given to a charity of one’s choice.
We would like to thank all the people who supported mom to stay in her home in her widowed years, while too many to mention we specifically thank Jim Claire great neighbour, Liguori Burry, Bert Burry, Wayne Freake, Bev Brown for their many visits and support especially during times of illness. A big thank you to Dr. Dina Abdulwahid, continuing care nurses especially Elaine Steele, Heather Eveleigh from Community Health, Lewisporte. As well her many home support workers. Additionally, thank you to Dr. Anstey, the nursing staff and other staff at the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre, Twillingate for their expertise and care.
We will remember you mom not just that you died, but that you lived and that your life gave us beautiful memories not to forget. We owe you mom more that words can express. Rest In Peace with no regrets.
