BROWN, George Sandels, BSc. P Eng.
George was born in Lethbridge, AB on February 18, 1926 and passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2019. He attended primary and secondary schools in Lethbridge and then graduated from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, class of 1951. He is survived by his children Susan (Ross) Vaxvick and Jody Hill, of Saskatoon and George Brown Jr. (Janice) of Regina. He was predeceased by his loving wife Helen Brown, parents Colonel George S. Brown and Jean I Brown, sister and brother-in-law Margaret and Dr. William Nelson of Lethbridge, son-in-law Patrick Hill, parents-in-law Richard and Theresa Wood, brother-in-law Russell Wood and granddaughter Jessica Brown. George is also survived by his brother John Spencer Brown (Dorothy) of Sydney, BC, 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. George spent many years of his career working with the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administrations, primarily on the design and construction of the St. Mary Irrigation Project in Southern Alberta and on the construction of the Gardiner Dam near Outlook, Sk. In 1965, George accepted the position of Chief Engineer with the Saskatchewan Department of Agriculture. Principle duties included the design and construction of the irrigation project at Outlook. In 1974 he accepted a position with the Federal Department of The Environment in Ottawa, returning from P.F.R.A. in 1976 as director of its Soil and Water Conservation Branch. He retired from the P.F.R.A. in 1988 and spent the remainder of his career consulting on a number of water resources project throughout Pakistan, Bangladesh, Tazmania and Indonesia. At George’s request, no funeral service will be held. A remembrance for family and close friends will be held at a later date.
