Obituary of David Lynn Broughton
It is with great sadness that we announce that David Lynn Broughton, 76, of Fort Langley, BC passed away peacefully at home on September 26th, 2019 after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer.
Funeral services will be held at St. Andrew’s Newton Presbyterian Church on October 4th, 2019 at 2:00 pm with Reverend Geoffrey B. Jay officiating.
David was born in Odessa, Texas to Mamie and Charles Broughton on January 28, 1943. During his career as his teacher he worked in Arizona, Alberta and Inuvik, NWT which is where he met and married his loving wife Stephanie who was a fellow teacher. After the birth of their first child, David & Stephanie moved to New Zealand and he continued his teaching career and expanded their family with 2 more children. In 1977 he moved back to Canada settling with his family in Kamloops, BC. He was a passionate volunteer and advocate for literary and worked with Laubach Literacy and Young Life. His support and contributions had an impact on many children and adults. David was also an active member of his church in both Kamloops and Surrey participating in bible study, men’s breakfast, and other groups.
He is survived by his wife Stephanie, sons John (wife Heather, granddaughter Mckinley), Kesten, and Jamin Broughton, sister Sophie Edwards, nephews and nieces, Joel T (wife Deborah, son Andrew), Ben (wife Alexis, son Rory & daughter Rowan), Rachel (husband Aaron), and David, brother Charles Broughton (wife Pat), and nieces, Sarah, and Nilasha. He was predeceased by his parents Mamie & Charles Broughton and his brother in law Joel Edwards.
