Memorial Donation
Forster, James Henry, born June 18, 1918. Left this world in peace on September 20, 2019 with both his children by his side. Husband of his beloved late wife Sheila (1966), Father to Suzanne and Andrew, Father-in-law to Fiona and Grandfather to Caroline, Uncle to Lanys (Will), Craig, Penny (Duncan), David (Carole), Paul (Nancy), Claire (Stephen), Sandy (Andy) and Nikki and the late Julia and the late Nigel. Born in Northumberland, England, son of Oscar Rudolf and Margaret Aitken (nee MacArthur), brother to the late Mac (late wife Eunice), the late Ian (late wife Dorothy), John (wife, Joan) and Brian (late wife Eunice).
James (Jim) served as an officer in the Royal Engineers from 1939 to 1949, and then went on to become a chemical engineer studying at Armstrong/Kings College of Durham University. He began his career with Albright & Wilson Ltd. in the UK and then transferred to Canada in 1955 where he met his beautiful Sheila and they married on August 22, 1959.
Jim was the Dad that did everything with and for his children. Memories of trips to the playground, to see the Christmas lights, learning to keep house, vacations to the UK and other Canadian provinces were all a part of Suzanne and Andrew’s childhood experiences with their Dad.
His joy of travel took Jim to Nepal, China, Australia, Turkey, Scotland to name a few. His love of hiking and the outdoors saw him climb Kilimanjaro at the age of 79, travel to Base Camp Mount Everest and complete the entire Bruce Trail end to end (700kms) twice from the ages of 80-92 years.
He also loved to play tennis when he was a young man, watch PGA golf, challenge himself with cryptic crossword puzzles and he loved to fix things – from the lawnmower to the toaster to renovating a full basement!
The family would like to thank Parkland on the Glen, and Sunrise of Erin Mills for their care and compassion and helping to give Jim a dignified and very peaceful passing surrounded by love.
If you wish to honour James, donations can be made to the Bruce Trail Conservatory at brucetrail.org/donations/memorials
