Gladys “Gay” Winifred (née Burt/Javens) Hunt passed away September 11, 2019 at the Rose Villa, Rosetown, SK at the age of 92 years.
Gay was born in the Rosetown area on the family farm on November 6, 1926. Her parents were Walter and Ellen Lillian Burt. She attended school at Hillside, a country school east of Rosetown and finished her high school at Brock, SK. She moved to Saskatoon with her parents and obtained employment at the Bank of Commerce. In 1947, she married Philip Ross Javens of Rosetown, then moved to the Jerome area where they farmed for 45 years.
Gay loved taking care of her home, farming, driving the combine, gardening, working with livestock, attending church, participating in church activities, spending time with nieces, nephews and neighbours, reading and watching television and drama. Having built a home in Rosetown, Ross and Gay moved to town for the winter months. When Ross passed away in 1992, Gay continued to live in Rosetown.
She became close friends with Douglas Hunt, a bush pilot from Sovereign and they married in 1993. They continued farming, did a lot of travelling and enjoyed the Saskatchewan Flying Farmer’s activities. They sold the home at Rosetown and moved to Prairie View Heights condo. Douglas passed away in 2009. Gay continued to reside in the condo.
In the fall of 2017, Gay moved to Rose Villa where she enjoyed the various activities and the companionship of her new neighbours.
Gay leaves to mourn members of the Burt, Molnar, Elviss, Oliver and Green families as well as Douglas’ sister Valeda Snow and other family members.
The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Andrews Trinity Anglican Lutheran Church, Rosetown, SK with Reverend Lauren Miller officiating. Interment will follow at the Rosetown Cemetery.
