Velna passed peacefully surrounded by family on August 16, 2019 at Samaritan Place in Saskatoon Saskatchewan.
She was born on July 14, 1946 and raised in Buffalo Narrows, SK, until moving to Saskatoon to finish high school at City Park Collegiate Institute. She completed her business studies at the University of Saskatchewan and Northern State University. She started out in the banking industry. Upon moving to the United States, she managed a hotel and dining business, then added her skills to Good Nature, a natural personal care product store.
She loved animals, especially cats, and had a soft spot for anyone or anything in need. She would open her home and heart without hesitation. She loved reading books and having deep conversations with her wide group of friends. Those who knew her would attest to her devotion to being a kind and generous host and an amazing cook.
She loved her friends, traveled with them, laughed with them, especially “The Birthday Club.” Good friends that passed earlier, Sue Tonner and Marianne Stenvig, will welcome Velna.
She is preceded in death by her parents Victoria Madsen (Fiddler) and Jorgen Madsen (father), Fara Madsen (niece), Aura Madsen (grand-niece), Robbie Donaldson (nephew), Shirley Donaldson (sister in law), Andrew J Madsen (brother), John Haas (brother in law), Ken and Jeanice Hart (brother and sister in law).
She met her husband in high school in Saskatoon. Velna’s love and devotion to her family was boundless. She married Harvey Hart in 1966 and raised Janine Ward(Hart), Candace Briscoe(Hart), and Ronald Hart.
She leaves behind her husband, Harvey Hart; her grandchildren: Kristofer DeBenedictis, Jamie Ward, Seattle Briscoe, Jamaica Briscoe; her children Ronald Hart, Janine Ward (Hart), and Candace Briscoe (Hart); her sisters: Madsine Madsen, Karen McMartin and Irene Huggins; her brothers: Jorgen Madsen and Lawrence Madsen; and many niieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
The funeral service will be held at St Mark’s Episcopal Church, Aberdeen, South Dakota on August 27th at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association of South Dakota.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Velna Marie Hart Madsen..
